Carousel-to-be!!

I spotted this dismantled fairground carousel at the back of a truck near Albert Dock, Liverpool

The events of the 9th of September, 2001 are permanently etched in the memories of us all who were witness to a dastardly act of terrorism. In place of the previous twin world trade centre towers now stands the colloquially termed “Freedom Tower“. One World Trade Centre, as this new building is called arose from the ruins like the mythical phoenix from the ashes to reclaim the Manhattan skyline. The spire on top of the tower makes the height of the building 1776 ft, symbolic to the 1776AD US declaration of independence.

These photographs were taken from the NY-Liberty ferry as 3 bracketed shots at -2, 0 and +2. Processed as HDR in Photomatix Pro. The day was overcast and grey and this is reflected in the rather unimpressive sky tones.

MiG 17F, Vietnam Air Force -HDR

Building upon the Korean War success of the Soviet MiG-15, this single seat MiG-17F had wings that were more sharply swept back and a longer fuselage. This aircraft’s maneuverability and cannon-armament proved legendary in dog fights. It could out-maneuver american missiles and out-fly larger american fighters. NATO gave the code-word “Fresco” to the MiG17. The Vietnamese called the painted versions of this plane “Snakes” (From the description on the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space museum).

Distorted Vision!

Driving down from Dallas to the Fossil Rim Wildlife Park near Glen Rose, I took this picture of a red truck reflected in its own gigantic rear-view mirrors. The silver vehicle on the right is the one we were sitting in!

The Liver Building – HDR

The Royal Liver building (pronounced Laiver) is an iconic landmark on Liverpool pier. The two liver birds (one in the picture below) watch over the city and are fabled to bring luck to the city. This building was the tallest structure in the United Kingdom till 1961 and is one of the first buildings in the world to be built with reinforced concrete.

Manhattan – HDR

This photograph of the iconic Manhattan skyline comes from a rocking ferry returning from the Statue of Liberty. 3-shot bracketed HDR at -2, 0, 2 processed in Photomatix Pro. Slightly overblown highlights but the sky was dull and overcast and I had to increase brightness and luminance to get anything useful out of the picture.

Spring, Summer – the Four Seasons

This is my full collection of the 4 gigantic sculptures that are presently on display at the New York Botanical Gardens. These sculptures are by Philip Haas and were inspired by the paintings of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, an Italian renaissance painter who famously used fruits, flowers and twigs in his depiction of human heads.
