Bible stories in Barcelona

Details of carvings on one of the gigantic doors on the passion facade of that Antoni Gaudi classic – La Sagrada Familia. The carvings portray different stories from the bible. This structure has been under construction since the 1880. More fantastic pictures from this basilica to follow soon!

San Fernando Cathedral was founded in 1731 and is the oldest, continuously functioning religious community in Texas. The Cathedral building has the added distinction of being the oldest standing church building in Texas. (Source: http://www.catholicearth.com).

The First Church of Christ, Scientist

My recent travels in the US took me to Boston and past this imposing church. The first church of Christ in Boston is the mother church of the Christian Science Movement and was built at the end of the 19th century.

Cambridge in HDR – The Round Church

The Round Church in Cambridge is probably one of the oldest surviving buildings in the city.

Cambridge Round Church (12th century AD)

Dating from 1130AD, this is (according to the website) one of only 4 circular churches in England. It is now maintained by Christian Heritage. Not the easiest building to take a picture of, sitting as this is on a busy crossroad in the city. A lovely little church, well worth the visit for sheer character and history. Parish Church of Ickleton

I am fortunate to work within walking distance of two English villages (Ickleton and Hinxton). The parish church of St. Mary Magdalene in Ickleton dates back to the 11th century and is a fine example of a medieval Norman church. A serious fire in 1979 exposed wall paintings from the 12th century. The following picture is from my walk yesterday when exactly at 1PM, the church bell tolled!
