Building upon the Korean War success of the SovietMiG-15, this single seat MiG-17F had wings that were more sharply swept back and a longer fuselage. This aircraft’s maneuverability and cannon-armament proved legendary in dog fights. It could out-maneuver american missiles and out-fly larger american fighters. NATO gave the code-word “Fresco” to the MiG17. The Vietnamese called the painted versions of this plane “Snakes” (From the description on the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space museum).
