Begonia (at length)
Lacking any suitable objects to photograph today, I turned to the Begonia plant on the kitchen sill. These photographs all use long exposures (up to 50 seconds) and no flash, using nothing but ambient kitchen light.
The idea behind these photographs were ostensibly to test out the new shutter release cable I purchased a few days ago. I was also experimenting with the use of cool white LED lights and their effect on the overall white balance of the photographs.

A Demoiselle (not in distress) fly
Earlier this summer, I spotted this beautiful banded demoiselle fly (female) perched on a flower bud. And it just so happened that I had my camera with macro lens! Some results are below.
There are, according to this handy website, only two species of demoiselles in the United Kingdom, of which I have now photographed one. The other I have seen on occasion in the west country but never been close enough to take a decent photograph. Demoiselles belong to the same family as the dragonflies but are more closely related to the damselflies.

Bridge on the NY state route 59
A bridge on New York state route 59 out of Suffern, NY over the Norfolk Southern railway. The bridge itself is no more than a 100 feet across but the geometric patterns of the metal structure distributes weight beautifully.

Ephemeral

Zinnia – From my garden
These Zinnia flowers were grown from seeds purchased on my last visit to the US. I love the detail on these flowers and have tried to capture them in this photograph.

The Four Seasons – Autumn
The next in the series of sculptures by Philip Haas is Autumn. Autumn is characterised by ripe fruit (grapes, apples, blackberries) and vegetables (pumpkins, barley) ready for the picking.
These sculptures are inspired by Giuseppe Arcimboldo‘s paintings of “The Four Seasons”. Arcimboldo used fruits, vegetables and grains to creative identifiable and imaginative portraits.

Reach for the sky…
Just outside the popular Prudential Center in Boston stands a tall bronze statue seemingly reaching for the sky. This statue, by Donald De Lue, was cast in Italy and installed in 1967.
