Found these cones and various seed pods carefully arranged at Allan Bank in Grasmere. Made a nice study of various natural textures contrasting with the surface. Photographed with a Nikon D7000.

Sunset
This sunset over Morecambe Bay was just too good to record using a single exposure. So I bracketed 5 shots and merger them. The slight fuzziness of the clouds nicely compliments that sharp inky blues of the beach!

Insignificant portrait
What is man, that thou art mindful of him?
These words came to mind when I looked at this photo of me taken by a friend. In the vastness of space, we are but insignificant creatures living on a tiny planet in orbit around an average star in one corner of a galaxy amongst billions of galaxies!

Lake Grasmere, Cumbria
The lake made famous by William Wordsworth, Lake Grasmere in the Lake District National Park is a mile long tranquil lake. I took this picture from a low perspective and attempted to capture the natural beauty of this place. In the distance, Allan Bank, a property managed by the National Trust can be seen. A small island in the middle of the lake was Wordsworth’s favourite destination while he was staying at nearby Dove Cottage. Click on the picture for more viewing options. Joys of a revived one!
My pot bound Chinese rose (Hibiscus rosa sinensis) almost died last year due to a nasty mealy bug infestation. In desperation I chopped the branches down till I was left with a few stalks and no leaves. I left it undisturbed over the winter in the conservatory with minimal watering. This year the plant is back and has set buds like the one shown below. Needless to say, I’m extremely pleased!

Flaming Tulip
As most everyone else my visit to Keukenhof Tulip gardens 3 years ago resulted in the purchase of tulip bulbs. Many of these lasted one season only but the one below has been a repeat flowerer. The is the Estella Rijnveld Parrot Tulip with bright red and creamy wavy petals. They are indeed spectacular, are they not?

Purple Beans!!
Home grown foods are tasty, and some have very pretty flowers too – like these purple bean flowers. This is the first year I’ve grown these and now I harvest more than half-a-kilo of delicious fresh purple beans every two days!
Arachnophobia!
It is that time of the year again! Autumn – when gigantic spiders make their way into the house and make webs in every available nook and cranny! And this one below (garden cross spider) made a huge web (almost a metre in diameter) between my beans and tomato plants.. Shudder!!!
Audley End House, Saffron Walden
Audley End house is a magnificent example of a 17th century stately home near Saffron Walden in Essex. The property was also once a royal palace in the time of Charles II (1668) who purchased the property for £5 in order to be able to attend races at Newmarket. Audley End is now managed by English Heritage but all paintings and period decorations are from the original time and form part of a private collection.
