Audley End House, Saffron Walden

Audley End house is a magnificent example of a 17th century stately home near Saffron Walden in Essex. The property was also once a royal palace in the time of Charles II (1668) who purchased the property for £5 in order to be able to attend races at Newmarket. Audley End is now managed by English Heritage but all paintings and period decorations are from the original time and form part of a private collection.

Hobbit Window…

Birmingham Waterways

I’d read before that Birmingham was successful as a manufacturing site due to the canals that allowed the transport of raw material to and export of finished items from this city.

In my many visits to England’s second city this was the first time I made it anywhere close to a canal. First impressions – I need to come back here again prepared for photography.

Monsters..

Humans have this infinite capacity that creates monsters out of every day objects. Children show this the most and reflect their inner fears in shadows and other inanimate items. Would you care to find your monster from this photo of a fountain?

A deserted beach on Mackinac Island, Michigan on the shores of Lake Huron.

Mackinac Bridge, MI

Something about bridges and sunsets – the contrast of human effort and natural beauty! The Mackinac Bridge connects the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan across the Mackinac Straits that join two great lakes (Huron and Michigan). The Mackinac Bridge is over 8Km long with the longest span of over 1Km. The following photograph is as a result of a long exposure at sunset from a place on Mackinaw City.

Arch Rock, Mackniac Island, MI

There is this spectacular limestone arch on Mackinac Island in Michigan. I had a leisurely stroll around the island yesterday after hiring a bicycle. The 8 mile circumnavigation of the island offers lovely views of Lake Michigan (more photos from that later). For now, here’s a picture of Arch Rock.

Flaming Rose!

This rose has some of the deepest colours imaginable. It was a lucky buy at a local garden centre few years ago and have never ceased to amaze with the depth of colour!
